Saludos desde Costa Rica!
Today marked the half-way mark of our mission trip. Half of the group directed their efforts
towards the chicos (boys). The Chicos group’s
focus was on enjoying time, talking story, working on crafts, and playing games
as a means of sharing God’s love with
the Chicos. It was a physically tiring,
but truly invigorating day.
Chicos events were led by Andrew “Turtle” Hertel. Turtle taught the Chicos team how to braid
paracord into a bracelet. The group then
had the pleasure of teaching two distinct groups of boys both how to make the
bracelets and reflecting on the symbolism behind the bracelets – which represent
God’s Trinitarian nature and His presence in our lives. Boys, however, will be boys and the rest of
the allotted time was spent introducing spike-ball to nearly thirty 11-12 year
old boys and playing some very high-intensity soccer.
The days events underscored the importance of our and other
mission teams’ efforts towards improving the Chicos’ house and expanding its
outreach. The chicos’ energy and desire
to take part in positive and fun activities was obvious to everyone
present. It was a true pleasure to join
Child Hope in fighting the good fight on behalf of these boys.
